DRESS REHEARSAL CAST B WEDNESDAY MAY 28 2008
Posted On: May, 7th 2008

The dress rehearsal for Cast B is at the Eagle Eye Theatre Wednesday May 28 2008. There are no regular classes this day. Dress rehearsals are to help students and teachers see the flow of the show, become aware of quick changes and figure out technical issues. No stage make up is required for the dress rehearsal. Hair must be appropriately done for each dance the dancer is in (especially older students) and full costume where costumes have been completed. This is to avoid any costume/hair malfunctions at the performance. Please arrive early to change into costume, once changed and ready to dance sit in the audience section of the theatre so we don’t have to go searching for you when it is your time to dance. Changing into your costume or wearing your costume under regular clothes will help protect it from any accidents and wear and tear. As always, we will do our best to stay on time. However, dress rehearsals can run late. This can also be avoided by students arriving early and ready to dance. Students may leave once they have danced, but we encourage them to watch each other perform. Parents may also watch the dress rehearsal. Out of respect for the dancers and to help rehearsals stay on time, we ask that the audience be quiet during rehearsals. No food or drink other than water is permitted in the Eagle Eye Theatre. These are not our rules but the rules of the theatre, please respect them. Please double check which of your dances is in each cast as some amendments had to be made.

AUDITIONS FOR ALL COMPETITIVE CLASSES
Posted On: May, 7th 2008

Competitive classes are for students wanting to take their dance experience a step further. Competitions provide students with an opportunity to perform in an organized competitive environment against students from other schools in the region. We participate in 2 competitions a year.
Please note that competitive classes require a strong commitment. Competing in a dance group is a team effort; students will be relying on one another to make their best effort. Please ensure that you are willing and able to dedicate yourself to the competitions and your fellow students. Students missing more than 2 choreography classes in a row and/or display a lack of progress or poor attitude may have their placement within the group re assessed. If by December 2008 a student has missed several choreography and core classes and/or shown a lack of progress or poor attitude and disrespectfulness may be asked to leave the group. Regrettably, if a student has an extended family vacation, or vacations close to competition dates she/he may be asked to leave the group.

Extra practices may be required during competition season. There will be an additional fee for any extra competition classes. Additional fees are to be paid in advance directly to your teacher. The cost per half hour is $18.00, split across the number of students in a class. It is realistic to expect 2-5 extra classes would be required.

These Competitive classes are by audition, after which invitation is made by the respective teacher, based on the audition as well as attendance and attitude. Auditions are required for all students, including those already enrolled in a competitive class and open to students not currently enrolled at Howe Sound Dance Academy. This is to maintain level standards. Selected students will be required to sign a contract upon registering for these classes.

Auditions for Jazz competitive levels 1-3 (ages 9-12) and Lyrical competitive level 1 (ages 9-12) will be Monday May 12 3:30-4:30 at the Brackendale studio.
Auditions for Jazz competitive levels 4-6 (ages 13-17) and Lyrical competitive levels 2-3 (ages 13-15, 15+) will be Monday May 12 4:45-5:45 at the Brackendale studio.
Auditions for Ballet competitive levels 1 & 2 (ages 11-13, 14+) will be Monday May 12 5:45-6:45pm at the Brackendale studio.

Students auditioning for the above classes will learn a small piece of choreography to be performed in small groups, be asked to demonstrate a variety of dance movements (double pirouette en dedans & dehors, splits in all positions, grand jetes front, side and back, switch split leaps, pose pirouettes, fouette rond de jambe en tournant), and be asked to demonstrate some acting skills.
Students auditioning for jazz should wear split sole jazz shoes, ballet slipper or foot protectors, a fitted tank top or leotard with fitted capris, jazz pants or tights. Hair should be appropriate for an audition.
Students auditioning for ballet should wear ballet slippers, leotard and tights. Hair should be appropriate for an audition.

Auditions for Hip Hop competitive Level 1 (ages 10-12) will be Tuesday May 27 3:30-4:30 at the Brackendale studio. It is required that auditioning students commit to both days of audition.
Auditions for Hip Hop competitive Level 2 (ages 13-15) will be Tuesday May 27 8:00-9:00 at the Brackendale studio. It is required that auditioning students commit to both days of audition.
Auditions for Hip Hop competitive Level 3 (ages 15+) will be Tuesday May 27 6:00-7:00 at the Brackendale studio. It is required that auditioning students commit to both days of audition.

Students auditioning for the above classes will learn a small piece of choreography to be performed in small groups. Students auditioning for hip hop should wear jazz sneakers or indoor only sneakers, and appropriate attire and hair for a hip hop audition.

IF YOU MUST MISS YOUR AUDITION AS CALLED MISS BLANCHARD MUST KNOW PRIOR TO THE AUDITION SO THAT A SECONDARY AUDITION CAN BE SET UP.

A FEW GUIDELINES TO HELP YOU OUT:
• Please arrive at least 1 hour prior to competing with hair and make up done, sometimes these events run early. Your teacher will want to run your dance a few times before competition time so try to stay with your group. If your teacher is unable to be at competition, a group mom will be designated.
• You are responsible to make sure you are properly warmed up to compete.
• Make sure you have your full costume, dance shoes, make up, hair products and safety pins. Leave valuables at home; the make up, bathrooms & changing areas are shared with all other competing dancers.
• Specifics ie. Hair, make up, socks vs no socks are to be discussed with you teacher.
• Treat other dancers with respect; don’t say anything you wouldn’t want said about you.
• Above all have fun and DANCE!!!!!

AUDITIONS FOR ALL COMPETITIVE CLASSES
Posted On: May, 14th 2007

Competitive classes are for students wanting to take their dance experience a step further. Competitions provide students with an opportunity to perform in an organized competitive environment against students from other schools in the region. We participate in 2 competitions a year.
Please note that competitive classes require a strong commitment. Competing in a dance group is a team effort; students will be relying on one another to make their best effort. Please ensure that you are willing and able to dedicate yourself to the competitions and your fellow students. It is realistic to expect 2-5 extra classes would be required.
These classes are by audition, after which invitation is made by the respective teacher, based on the audition as well as attendance and attitude.

Auditions for Jazz competitive levels 1-2 (ages 9-12) and Lyrical competitive level 1 (ages 9-12) will be Wednesday June 6 3:45-5:00pm at the Brackendale studio.
Auditions for Jazz competitive levels 3-6 (ages 13-17) and Lyrical competitive levels 2-3 (ages 13-15, 15+) will be Wednesday June 6 6:00-7:15pm at the Brackendale studio.
Auditions for Ballet competitive levels 1 & 2 (ages 11-13, 14+) will be Wednesday June 6 5:00-6:00pm at the Brackendale studio.
Auditions for Modern competitive (ages 14+) will be Wednesday June 6 7:45-9:00pm at the Downtown studio.
Students auditioning for the above classes will learn a small piece of choreography to be performed in small groups and be asked to demonstrate a variety of dance movements.

Auditions for Hip Hop competitive Level 1 (ages 10-12) will be Tuesday June 5 & 12 3:30-4:30 at the Downtown studio. It is required that auditioning students commit to both days of audition.
Auditions for Hip Hop competitive Level 2 (ages 13-15) will be Tuesday June 5 & 12 6:00-7:00 at the Downtown studio. It is required that auditioning students commit to both days of audition.
