| AUDITIONS FOR ALL COMPETITIVE CLASSES |
| Posted On: May, 9th 2010 |
 |
Competitive classes are for students with a strong and positive work ethic to take their dance experience a step further. Competitions provide students with an opportunity to perform in an organized competitive environment against students from other schools in the region. We participate in 2 competitions a year.
Please note that competitive classes require a strong commitment. Competing in a dance group is a team effort; students will be relying on one another to make their best effort. Please ensure that you are willing and able to dedicate yourself to the competitions and your fellow students. Students missing more than 2 choreography classes in a row and/or display a lack of progress or poor attitude may have their placement within the group re assessed. If by December 2010 a student has missed several choreography and core classes and/or shown a lack of progress or poor attitude and disrespectfulness may be asked to leave the group. Regrettably, if a student has an extended family vacation, or vacations close to competition dates (Feb-April) she/he may be asked to not participate or leave the group. If a student is ill or has a medical condition preventing them to dance at a competitive level she/he may be asked to not participate or leave the group.
Extra practices will be required during competition season. There will be an additional fee for any extra competition classes. This fee is at the discretion of the instructor. Additional fees are to be paid in advance directly to your teacher. It is realistic to expect to pay approx $20.00 per half hour, split across the number of students in a class.
These Competitive classes are by audition, after which invitation is made by the respective teacher, based on the audition as well as past work ethic, attendance and attitude. Auditions are required for all students, including those already enrolled in a competitive class and open to students not currently enrolled at Howe Sound Dance Academy. This is to maintain level standards. Selected students and parents will be required to sign a contract upon registering for these classes.
Auditions for Ballet competitive students ages 9-12 (going into Gr 4-7 at school) will be Saturday May 15 3:45-4:15pm at the Brackendale studio.
Auditions for Ballet competitive students ages 13+ (going into Gr 8 at school) will be Saturday May 15 4:15-4:45pm at the Brackendale studio.

Students auditioning for jazz should wear split sole jazz shoes, ballet slipper or foot protectors, a fitted tank top or leotard with fitted capris, jazz pants or tights. Hair should be appropriate for an audition.

PHOTO DAY Sunday May 30 & Monday May 31 @ BRACKENDALE STUDIO
This year we are pleased to be using Bestway Photo for dance photos. In order to accommodate all photos, additional groups will have photos on Sunday. Order envelopes will be available from the studios soon. Memory mate (6X9 group photo and 5X7 individual photo together in 1 mount) is $10.00 including taxes payable to Bestway Photos. To avoid slowing the photography process, order envelopes must be completed with payment placed inside and we ask that all students arrive at least 20 minutes prior to shoot time costume, hair and make up ready. Bestway is not able to accommodate specials ie. Siblings/friends having photos taken together. As always we will do our best to stay on time. |
The dress rehearsal for Cast B is at the Eagle Eye Theatre Wednesday May 26. There are no regular classes this day (except morning Pre School classes) or Cast A Dress Rehearsal Tuesday May 25. Dress rehearsals are to help students and teachers see the flow of the show, become aware of quick changes and figure out technical issues. No stage make up is required for the dress rehearsal. Hair must be appropriately done for each dance the dancer is in (especially older students) and full costume where costumes have been completed. This is to avoid any costume/hair malfunctions at the performance. Please arrive early to change into costume, once changed and ready to dance sit in the audience section of the theatre so we dont have to go searching for you when it is your time to dance. Changing into your costume or wearing your costume under regular clothes will help protect it from any accidents and wear and tear. As always, we will do our best to stay on time. However, dress rehearsals can run late. This can also be avoided by students arriving early and ready to dance. Students may leave once they have danced, but we encourage them to watch each other perform. Parents may also watch the dress rehearsal. Out of respect for the dancers and to help rehearsals stay on time, we ask that the audience be quiet during rehearsals. No food or drink other than water is permitted in the Eagle Eye Theatre. We recommend bringing something healthy to eat that will not stain costumes and water (no juices sodas or sticky snacks). If students are going outside, they must be fully covered up. No dance shoes outside & no costumes outside. Students abusing the privilege of going outside may be asked to not perform.
Stay quiet in the Green Room, your noise carries through into the stage.
No gum or jewellery use your common sense. Leave all valuables and jewellery at home.
Unfortunately there is not enough room at the side of the stage to watch the performance; students must remain in the Green Room until they are called.
Students should remain in costume for final bows.
